We have web servers hosting 254 domains on an IP range where the first 3 of the 4 numbers are the same.

If links to your web sites increase Search Engine ratings, we should at least link to our own pages! Hey, at least we should link our own customer sites to maximize their SE ratings.

But would we be penalized for this? Do SE robots care if the link is from a domain, say at 111.222.333.001, to a site at 111.222.333.002? Probably the robots don't have time to look up the IP address.

What are the pros and cons of this "incestuous" linking - linking between domains within the same IP range or web server?

Oldest trick in the SE spammers book. SEs soon work it out and take the appropriate action.
Doesn't matter matter whether you use different IPs, IP blocks, Servers, Hosts etc there will be a detectable pattern.

Indifference will be the downfall of mankind, but who cares?
