Hi,

I have been using flash for a year now. But, I am thinking of working on a project that would include interfacing Flash MX with a DB (MS Access most likely). I am having trouble finding any specific information on the subject.

Essentially what I want to know is how is it done (not specific). I already assume that I am going to need some sort of middleware. Also, is this an easy project?

Any information/personal experience that you can share would be most helpful.

Thanks! I really don't care what I sing, and I really doubt you know what I mean...

What i have been using is Java Servlets, to work with SQL databases. Unfortunately i can't tell you much about it, because i have somebody else making the Servlets.

The easiest way I can think of is communicating with a PHP that queries the database. You'd have to learn a bit of PHP, but it's not so hard, and in a week or so you'll be able to make it work.
(i never used MSAccess database, though) Diana.

I tend to agree with Diana. Making Flash to communicate via PHP with MySQL is so easy and the 3 platforms are recognised industry wide. And according to me they integrate very well. When you move to a service provider for web hosting the chances that you might get PHP enabled pages is 99% as well as MySQL for database solution. This might not solve you query but I think it’s worth thinking of..Good luck..

Tom:
What did you use as middleware between Flash & Access? Or did you just use PHP's too?

Everyone:
Were your PHP's created by using Dreamweaver?

Specifically what I would like to do is have a quiz & have the results write to the DB. I really don't care what I sing, and I really doubt you know what I mean...

Samantha - I am using Flash and Dreamweaver in conjucttion with Active Server Pages on an IIS Server.
Here is the URL I used to help me through transfering data
back and forth between Flash and Microsoft Access.

I have been using the Learning extension, and Coursebuilder extension in Dreamweaverto capture quiz scores. These two extensions capture a lot of information, but I am interested in using Flash to do the same thing.
Right now I am using Flash and Active Server Pages, to querry a data base to determine if a person has already taken a course.
