Hi Everyone,

I have a interesting question, and I am very annoyed! I have two Linksys BEFVP41 VPN boxes that talk just fine over two solid ADSL connections, dynamic ip resolved by dyn-dns service... but I have a problem getting a reliable set of pings for more than a minute. The connections ping fine, but the VPN hase a "request times out " randomly around 20-30 seconds.... Any Thoughts???? The boss is killing me on this.

Thanks,
Metroman.

Any Takers???? HELP!!! Anyone at all??????

Isn't there a set number of ping packets that can be received by either one at any given time? It may be mistaking it for a Denial of Service attack. I know that Nortel has a limit on the number of ICMP packets before it will stop responding. Maybe Linksys is like this as well.

what is the firmware version do you have there.. also re check your vpn configurations on the router itself...

Hi Everyone!,

Both sides are running "Firmware Version: 1.40.4, Nov 21 2002". and I still get the same problem... I am going to try to use a sister company's ethernet 10mb net connection, but I need to know the IPsec port number to forward the packets to my Router......Anyone know it????

Thanks,
Metroman

OK, more fun times...Let's summarize..

I have two BEFVP41's. When they were both on dynamic ip's, they worked the first time, no problem. Then we upgraded the bhead end connection and the VP41 was behind a Cisco 827, so the ports were forwarded to the Linksys, no problem. Whn I try to link the VPN the error comes out as "ERROR: This tunnel should not be initiator ! " It says this when I try to initiate the VPN from either end....and I'm toast if this thing is not working by tuesday! HELP!

Thanks, MEtroman.

I have received that error from machines IP's on the network. I haven't seen it from the other router, though. After you upgraded your connection, did you change the settings in your VPN page? Not really sure where to go for this one....
