I have two win xp with 2 interfaces lan and wlan each one. Both of them are connected to the same network using the wlan interfase 198.168.1.x netmask 255.255.255.0, due to lack of speed sometimes I would like to interconnect them using a UTP cross wire. My question is which should be the proper ip configuration for the ethernet (lan) interfaces address, netmask and gateway in order to keep the wlan connection working (I've a wifi router connected to the internet and don´t want to loose this connection while cross wire conected).
Thanks in advance,

Best regards
Sergio

You can setup the LAN interfaces with a different IP address/subnet than the wireless interface (example, use 10.0.0.1 and 10.0.0.2) and connect to the other IP for file transfer using this IP.

Thank you Serbtastic, I tried this, but may be I´m wrong setting up the gateways for these lan interfaces (I used crossed gateways) 10.0.0.1 for 10.0.0.2 ip addr and 10.0.0.2 for 10.0.0.1 ip addr. What should I set for gateways?

Thanks again,

Sergio

Do not set a default gateway for the point to point link, you do not want to look that way for the internet, only local traffic

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.
