I want to interconnect two TLU76/2 (DPNSS signalling) in two MD110/90 by a 4 wire line over a distance of 4.5km. Loop resistance 230 ohms.
Which LTU do I use ?

Hi,

Hope the information below can be of some assistance.

I quote from ALEX:

Twisted paired cable, without LTU, can be used up to 180 metres (590 feet).

Twisted paired cables, with LTUs, can be used for distances of up to 2000 metres (6562 feet) without intermediate repeaters.

Line Terminal Units (LTUs), ROF 137 7435/1, are used for twisted paired cables.

Long distances require an intermediate repeater for every 2000 metres (6562 feet).

LTU magazine BFD 321 501/1 (for up to 4 LTUs) and BFD 324 502/1 (for up to 20 LTUs) are installed in an OAM-module

Intermediate repeaters can be connected to the paired-cable equipment. These are placed along the line at intervals of approximately 2000 metres (6562 feet).

One intermediate amplifier ZHH 344 02 is to be used for each PCM-line.

The intermediate repeaters are encased in watertight boxes which can be placed in cabinets or manholes.

Intermediate repeaters are available in the following sizes:

4 lines, 1/ZDD 540 01/1
10 lines, 1/ZDD 541 01/1

Helo Djudjuman,

In my opinion you should use HDSL. HDSL is cheap solution and does not need repeaters. Typical ranges (using two pairs) are like this:
wire 0,4 mm => range 4km
wire 0,6 mm => range 6km
wire 0,8 mm => range 8km
According to loop resistance, your wire is arround 0,6mm.
More important than loop resistance is attenuation measured at 150 KHz. Also cross-talk between pairs should be low.

Which type of HDSL you should choose?
1) Ask your vendor what type of modulation HDSL is using. If it is CAP (Carrierless Amplitude Phase), than it is OK. If modulation is 2B1Q, it is still OK, but it has approximatelly 10% shorter range.
2) Ask your vendor what is maximum attenuation in cable at 150 KHz. Choose HDSL with highest number, for example 35dB.

I would like to hear other opinions about HDSL....
Best regards
Radoje

Unfortunately the ROF 137 7435/1, used for twisted paired cables are NOT for NEW SALES (as mentioned in ALEX)

ASCOM COLT-2 is good solution. You can also try new version named ASCOM Music 200.
