Hi guys,
I have a customer with an 8x24 w/dr5.1 s/w and a startalk "A" Could be a "B" anyhow on a couple of the phones the intercom shows in use, if you try to access the line it says "line in use" . I went into maintenance, disabled the port then enabled it again and it cleared the problem. The customer is telling me that this has happened before and cleared on it's own. I think tomorow I will reboot the system and see if this fixes the problem.
I have never run into this before and I wonder if anyone has any thoughts on it.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Rebooting an 8x24 is a gamble! If the capacitor is bad, your back to system startup.

I would replace the phones first. Maybe it's a sticky button. Also do F*0 on those buttons and see what they are. They shouldn't be anything but intercom, but you never know.

You might have disconnect supervision problems with the startalk also. see if you can lock those lines up by being transfered to voicemail.

That sounds like what might be happening, any sugestions on how to fix ds on a startalk, or is that controled by the ksu.

check in A.Configuration->1.trunk/line data->Trunk data->Trunk Mode default is unsupervised, you would want supervised. make sure that your telco is giving you disconnect supervision and you have a timer setting that you may need to change also(same programming locatin)

O.K. Reboot was sucessfull, no sticky buttons on the phones, supervision set to on, all lines. I also tried sending calls to vm with no problem. This really has me stumped, Why would an intercom line on a phone not give you access and say line busy? Could it be a glitch in the system, if so it is a new one on me.
I would appreciate any comments or thoughts on this problem.
Thanks in advance.

You mean if you press your intercom key it will say line busy? yhats bizarre!
You sure they are intercom keys and not line keys or Internal auto dial keys?

Yes! thats exactly what they do. I checked the buttons and they are in fact intercom keys, are now and have been for quite a while. Like I said before I cleared them through maintenance. But how weird!!

what is the status of the port in the maintenance of the system?
is B1 B2 both DNs free? (each TN has 2 DNs...)

Do you by any chance have more than 1 set connected to the same port? Also, you can find some weird cabling schemes sometimes. Make sure there is nothing on the w/o, o/w pair going to the jack except SAP power if needed, or make sure the set cord is 1 pair only.

No strange wiring. when I originaly installed the system we had the entire building rewired. Since the reboot I have not had the problem happen again. The strange thing it happend on three phones in different locations. I guess we will never know??

wayne987, You probably won't see the problem again. Probably just a little core glitch like I get some times with my memory. I had one once that put intercom dial tone on all lines on sets. You could hit a line button and then dial an extension, but not external calls. A reboot corrected it, but was very strange to have happen.

talking of starnge things ...we had a MICS KSU die on us through a power spike ...

when i'm on a call, the system transfers me to another extension ...i get a dial tone and someone else gets the call ...
its as if time slots decided to change themselves

I had one MICS change from the existing numbering (no longer in sequence as defaulted) back to default numbering plan. the stations kept the other programming just the numbers defaulted.
