These may be stupid questions but I must ask them:

First, why are there two intercom buttons? What is the normal real world usage?

Second, the partner acs 6.0 system I've installed in our office does not automatically turn the mic button on when someone intercom's you with the *ext command. I know I have seen other clients partner systems automatically turn this button on and off when intercom'd? Any ideas?

Also, did I read correctly on another thread that you must have a T1 line or module for the Messaging R7 Module to Email your local network server with the voicemail messages?

Thanks for your help...

James

2nd question first. Press The HFAI button on the phone while it is idle so the HFAI light illuminates and you can "hands free answer intercom"

1st question.
If you have no lines assigned to your phone calls are made on the inter com buttons.
Transferred calls on lines that don't apper on you phone will also show up on the intercom button. In order to transfer a call (on you intercom button)to someone else you press tne transfer key and it uses the 2nd intercom as a place to make that 2nd call. (the legend goes a step further to have an originate only intercom button so one is always available)

Hi James,
You need to turn on the Mic/HFAI button while the set is idle to have the hands free feature work. It's the Spkr button that goes on and off automatically.

Unified messaging does not require a T1. You need a mail server on the same network as your messaging card. You need an account for your voicemail for this to work. Some people use Microsoft Exchange. Avaya has published a guide to follow, it should be on the CD that came with your voicemail and it's also on the Avaya web site.
It's a free download, pdf format.

Yes, we're using Exchange 2003 and now I can't wait to try out the voicemail integration. That rocks!

In regards to the Mic/HFAI button...we've been just leaving it on around here as well, but at that clients office I mentioned it is not on until the extension is intercom'd and then it comes on automatically. I know you think I'm wrong but I tested it so many times because I couldn't believe it worked and I can't figure it out?

People around here will turn their mic off and then when you intercom them they start talking and don't realize their mic isn't on...it's quite frustrating.

Hi James,
The button stands for "hands free answer intercom", or something like that. When the light is on while the phone is idle, you can answer a voice intercom call (not incoming line call) by just talking back. Possibly the other system is flakey, but in a cool way?
