Interbase 'Database not found' error

I'm using Borland Database Engine to connect to an Interbase database.
The Interbase version is 6.01 (open source) and runs on a Windows 2000 server. This in turn is controlled by a domain (NT server).
In order to create a link to the database (.gdb) file we need the network user to have full administrator rights.
We have set the directory / drive (in full) to be available to be shared by all users on the server where the database is run from.
When we try to connect to the database (through an Alias) through the BDEAdministrator / Database Explored we get a returned error message 'Database not found'.
However when we try and connect from a client machine where a user with Adminstrator rights has signed on the database can be connected to with no problems.
For the meantime we have had to set all our users to have Administrator rights (not the ideal solution and only temporary).
The files and directories can be viewed through Windows Explorer (and the likes) and files can be read and written to (Word documents, etc.)
When we set a user to have Administrator rights the database can be accessed, when we remove these rights we are then presented with the error message 'Database not found'.

Can anyone make any suggestions as to what we need to do with this ?
I'm hoping that the clue is somewhere above but we cannot come to the appropriate answer to solve it.

Any help / pointers / suggestions would be appreciated.

It should be noted that when this database was running on the original NT Server that we did not face these problems. They have only come about when we moved the database to the 'new' Windows 2000 server.
Does this count as any further clue to things ?

I suppose that you reach your server via NetBeui (eg. \\SERVER\C:\DB\DB.GDB) and this is why you have to give admin rights to everyone. Try to connect via TCP/IP (eg. SERVER_NAME_OR_IP:C:\DB\DB.GDB. If you connect in this way, you do not have to share any directory on the server.

Thanks for the suggestion.
We are already using TCP/IP so this will not be the issue.
So it must be something else that we are overlooking ....

Strange, you don't need to share the drive where the files are. It can be that the user connected isn't registered at the W2K server. Maybe you have to play with the rights of the user (remote access or so) to get it to work. Steven van Els
