Hi all,
I have a remote database sitting on a Windows 2000 Server machine running Interbase server 6.5. I have around 10 clients connected through an application written in C++ builder with Interbase Express components (TCP connection).
Recently I installed the application on another machine (win XP) and every time this client connects Interbase Sever locks up (as well as all clients connected to it!). The machines configuration is the same as other clients that have no problems. Server Manager says Server is running although clicking "Server Properties" has no effect. After rebooting the DB is fine and the Interbase server log shows no errors. All works fine until I try to run the app from the 'rogue' client and again the Interbase server freezes!.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated as im very confused!

Info: Server spec, Twin Xeon 1.8ghz Raid Mirror, 1GB DDR

TIA Kris

Hi,

Are you using the Events component? If so, make sure to set AutoRegister to False and call the registerevents method of the component after you have connected to a database.

Hi Martin,
Thanks for the reply, you are right as I found this to be the problem after much experimentation!. The problem for me is my server has two nics and IB 6.5 IBEvents component can only work with one, however I did find the AutoRegister property to also be problematic as you suggested. Setting this explicitly after the DatabaseConnected property solves other stability problems. Am very unimpressed with the way IB handles the error though ;).
Thanks again,
Kris

Hi Kris,

Good to hear you can go on now.

This problem (with events) has been reported to Borland ... I don't know if it's fixed for 7.0 - perhaps in a 7.x update.
