Interactive Sort failing on Total column

Hi,
Couldn't find the answer, hopefully someone here can.
I have a matrix in RS2008 like this:

TIN Location 1/1/12 1/2/12 1/3/12 Total
123456 California 3 4 6 13
345667 New York 1 3 4 8
456677 Nebraska 0 2 1 3
434343 Utah 3 6 5 14

The matrix looks like this
[Date] Total
[TIN] [Location] [Count(TFN)] [Count(TFN)]

Trying to set the Interactive Sorting on the Total column only. But I can't get it to work. I have right clicked on the "Total" field, selected Text Box Properties, selected Interactive Sorting on the window, enabled it, chose a variety of Group level options (tried matrix1_TIN, tried matrix1_Date), and on Sort by: typed in [Sum(Date)], but none of it works.
Anyone know how to limit it to just the total column?

are you wanting to sort accross dates or up and down your counts?

If up and down your counts, use count(TFN) as the sort by
