I have setup 3 Vlans in 5510(single switch) version 4.2.
x.x.8.0/24 - vlan2
x.x.9.0/24 - vlan3
x.x.10.0/24- vlan4
I have connected a DHCP server x.x.9.3 in vlan3 and want to test the DHCP relay and IP address assignment to the systems connecting to the other Vlans. If am correct,All Vlans should be communicating with vlan3.1st place, the inter-vlan communication is not happening.IP routing is enabled globally.Do i need to give static routing. If yes, what will be the destn IP and next hop in the ip route command? Can i use RIP in ver 4.2. I think i cant but just want to confirm. Plz give me some tips.

Hi,

you need to configure the DHCP relay to forward the packets onto the DHCP server.

The 55xx switches, without 5.x code and a dynamic routing license, require you to use static routing.

Sorry, I'm not at a location to look up how to do it.

You have to assign an IP address on the VLAN on the switch if that is not yet done.

Then from the command line:

config t
ip dhcp-relay fwd-path <agent(switch VLAN IP)IP> <DHCP servr IP> mode dhcp
ip dhcp-relay fwd-path <agent(switch VLAN IP)IP> <DHCP servr IP> enable
