Inter site communication / connector

Can any body tell me how to connect two exchange sites A and B under the same organisation=C using MS-Mail connector / Lotus mail connector / siteconnector
The network configuration of the two sites is as follows:
Site A ---------WAN link---------- Site B
PDC PDC
dcphm1 dcper2
domainA domainB

I have tried creating a site connector between the sites but error message. DS_Communication_problem keeps coming even if I can ping the ip of the the sites from the remote end.
