Running on a clean install of Win98 SE for gaming.
I have a PS/2 MS Intellimouse Optical Mouse ( the one with the 2 extra buttons, one on each side. ) Everything works fine until a couple of reboots. Then the mouse is detected as a regular Intellimouse with no xtra buttons. Futhermore , on the drop down menu, I cannnot change the mouse settings to Intellimouse OPtical because it simply is not listed amongst the choices.

I have removed it, reinstalled it. Went to Safe Mode and tried it again. To no avail.

I am using Intellimouse Version 4 drivers.
PC, 900 Mhz, ASUS Mobo, over 700 Mgs of memory with Win 98 SE.

Please , any one be so kind to help.

Thank you in advance.

Do this. Remove the software and disconnect the mouse. Then, boot to Safe Mode and remove ALL mouse devices from Device Manager. Shut down, connect the mouse, and reboot. Windows should identify the mouse on restart.
