What is the difference from it and a Pentium? My understanding is Xeon is designed for servers mainly databases.

If you're need is for a CAD program that's mainly for viewing CAD not designing, is a Xeon the way to go or just a fast Pentium?

Xeon are mainly used for servers, they are work horses. Also the L2 cache goes up to 2MB, 1mb, 512k. As for just viewing CAD, a fast p4 with a good graphics card would do just fine. Not to mention they Xeon cost a lot more.
