If this is an NE-1000 clone, there is a faq that explicitly names those clones to be avoided at any and all costs. This would suggest if you've spent more than a few minutes trying to get it to work, you've spent that few minutes too much. For 14.95 I got a lynksys at office depot after messing with a noname ne2000 clone to no success.
Probably no one here would say their time is worth less than 15$ for hours & hours of fiddling.
