I running xp on a intel 810 chipset system, and everything is fine except:
1) when i try to run certain games to monitor goes into "suspend" mode and won't wake up.
2) I tried to update the graphics driver to the newest (2nd for XP) version (I already have intel XP graphics drivers) and the update fails, does not give an error but only allows me to choose 4bit colour.

These are probably unrelated but I am mostly concerned about the first problem

> These could help; they are the latest INTEL updates (as of October 2001) and Intel says that they are XP updates / compatible.

Naturally, read the README file.

THREE INTEL UPDATES:
1) INF files aka CHIIPSET ID
2) INTEL ACCELERATOR
3) GRAPHICS - specifically the onboard i810 & i815

1) INF FILE
FILE NAME: infinst_enu.exe

INTEL LINKS

2) INTEL ACCERATOR
FILE NAME: iaa11_enu.exe

3) INTEL GRAPHICS UPDATE for INTEL i810 & i815 CHIPSETS
FILE NAME: win9xe64.exe

Sorry, but this doesn't help,infinst_enu.exe won't install on XP with an 810 chipset, I have the iiaa12_enu.exe, and the graphics drivers, as I explained, leave me with only 4 bit colour.

Thanks anyway

OK.
I did reread your post, and saw that you said you had loaded what I suggested, but I had to give the basics first.
Had too.

> Next: Graphics problems ? Games loaded ? Connection ? probably..........
If you had a good running machine, and loaded some games up,,,,,,,, they may be old games ? ( your obviously not trying to run some new hot game on that limited system - Intel i810 graphics) business computer.
I would think that your trying to run some basic games; I would also think that those games are older, and NOT XP compatible.
Therefore, I would think there is a distinct possibility that some of the software (older games) that you loaded up have corrupted / (hosed) some of the XP files.

> I'm not sure how I would go about troubleshooting this.
I would reinstall DirectX 8.1 though.
I would look at my list of games that I installed and start removing them,,,,,, oldest first, and then moving up.
I would use the DirectX diagnostic TOOL also......
> What does it say about your graphics ?

I don't have much more at this time.

Thanks, for your help,
I have already run a direct x diagnostic and it all seems okay, the games I am referring to are only a year old and not very hgi level graphics (Cossacks for example), I don't want to reinstall Dirext 8.1 unless necessary.

So I'll shutting down some other programs first.
Thanks again
