We are currently using Crystal Reports Version 7 and thinking about upgrading to version 9. We have a large amount of reports already done in Crystal 7.

Is there a way to convert our existing version 7 reports to Crystal 9 so we don't have to redo everything?

In the past, crystal has always been backwards compatible on being able to read old reports and save into the newest format.. (was this way when i worked for crystal at least). There are sometimes drawback to this though in that when crystal goes through major modifications in a version upgrade, your report may sometimes run slower or the physical size of the report becomes larger. This is because when the conversion process takes place, there are certain aspects of the old report that must be kept and reused, leading to less efficiency. Also, make sure you keep old copies of your reports if you wish to go back to V7 as once the report is converted, there is usually no turning around. (V 8.XXX) let you export into V7, but I am unsure about the new V9 crystal.

CR9 will should run your CR7 reports fine.

For roadkills information, when I upgraded the runtime of cViewMANAGER (my report scheduler) to CR8.5, a client who was still using CR7 found their reports ran 20 times faster with the new run time. Editor and Publisher of Crystal Clear

I am also upgrading CR7 to CR9. CR9 does not allow you to save a report as an earlier version, so be sure to make backups of your CR7 reports before saving them as CR9.

So far, the best part of CR9 is that the exports work!
