I have any Octel Aria 250 running software release 03.10.09. About 10 days ago I started seeing the following message in the status log everyday at 2:00 a.m.

I've tried looking at status code F9 in the Octel Service Manual, but can not find a reference to subcode 28. I'm not aware of any service issues, but would like to understand what the problem may be.

Linda

Are you on a Avaya PBX ? it looks like the ports are testing at 2 am and it is kicking the alarm as the ports are being tested let me know what kind PBX and FLT cards you have

Ken Means

This location has a Nortel Option 11C. It appears that the ports are digital so I assume the cards are FLT rather than FLT8.

Linda

F9/28 Port login/logout to PBX failed
Line test failure task 18
Peripheral address 0400. (4A)
Test for dialtone on the port. If it continues contact the PBX tech and ask what test they are running at the same time. That could cause a conflict with the Octel port testing.

So are you saying that the PBX is running a port test at the same time the Octel is trying to run it's port test, therefore, the octel can't connect?

I reviewed the Octel port testing schedule and it does appear that schedule 1 is for 2:00a.m. with schedule 2 at 4:00a.m. I reviewed the previous test results and can see that all ports have a status of dial tone passed at 4:00 a.m.

Since I don't have access to the PBX, could I just change the Octel testing schedule to avoid the conflict with the PBX?

Linda

That is what I would recommend. Most PBX's run there test late at night when the traffic is slower.

I wanted to give you an update. I have changed the Octel port testing schedule many times. No matter what time I scheduled the tests, 2:00, 3:00 or 4:00 a.m. the tests always pass and as you can see below, the error continues. I only have 24 ports in the system, so the test completes quickly.

Perhaps I misunderstood the problem. I know that it was suggested that I contact my PBX vendor. Unfortunately, we don't have maintenance on this switch and I have no knowledge of Nortel systems. Since this doesn't appear to be service affecting, I can't make a case for contacting the vendor and incurring a charge. What is puzzling to me is that there have been no changes to either environment, so why suddenly on February 5th would there be a problem.

I wanted to thank you for your assistance. At this point, I'll just put it on my list of things to do for the next time we have a MAC and need to contact the PBX vendor. If you have any other suggestions on the Octel side, let me know.

Linda

it is the port test in the PBX that is doing it not in the Octel. When the port is tested it is like unpluging the phone and pluging it back in.

Ken Means

Also as Tobold said the subcode 28 means that the port was not able to log in or out of the group so this would mean a problem on the PBX side or that the port was in test mode on the PBX side.

Ken Means

It is also interesting that the task id and peripheral address point to port 4A as the problem, yet you say you only have 24 ports. If that is the case you would only have ports 1A through 3H.

Here are the screen shots you requested.

Let me clarify my statement that I have 24 ports. As you can see I have 32, but only 24 are enabled. In August,I started see possible bad port during testing errors. I identified those ports as belonging to 3A-3H, so I made those all No's assuming that it would disable them. The error stopped, so I didn't give it much thought. We only have about 30 people in this office, so I wasn't concerned about capacity.

Hope this helps. I don't really know very much about Octel, I only inherited it when they let our techs go last year. Any help is greatly appreciated.
