what do these codes mean? how do i clear them? we are currently having an issue w/ the msg indicator lamps lighting w/ no msg, and not lighting when there is a msg. i disabled 2 TN's on our option 81C b/c their ext's were dialing 911. any thoughts???

thanks in advance for the help!!!

is there anyone out there that can assist??? i'd really like to get this resolved if i could. msgs are now arriving to mailboxes days late.

thanks.

Looks to me like the octel is trying to st MWI on as set or DN that doesn't exist in your PBX and then is getting an error code back. In the first block it's ext\DN 6501 and in the second one it's 6500.

thanks for the info. however, both of those DN's do exist in our PBX. they are login ext's on the octel. have they possibly been disabled?

We have seen a fault scenario before with these symptoms.
The common grounding cable between the PBX and the the OCTEL voice mail server has been removed by mistake.
After it was connected again the fault disappeared.
Also remember to install ferrite cores on all lines into the OCTEL VM server.
Maybe this can help?

great info guys, thanks! what exactly are ferrite cores though? i'm still learning about this system as i go :) and i know where the ground for each system is, but where would the 'common' ground be located?

I'm not sure either RWhitte. Been installing VM and PBX for 15+ years and never had a 'common ground' between the 2 of they aren't in the same shell. what kind of PBX are you running the Octel with? Also, what kind oif integration are you doing? I would check to see if those 2 VM ports are disabled, but I don't think that's what it is. If I get time this P.M. I will try to decifer the error message with the book.

If KenMeans is on, he could probably tell you off the top of his head.

thanks Jc. Yeah, I've seen more than a few posts from Ken! i was hoping he would be on to get some more insight.

it's the Nortel Meridian Option 81C, release 4.5 if i'm not mistaken.

oif integration? i'm not sure. if this has something to do w/ the integration link, when i went to look the link up on the octel, it seemed to be that we didn't have one! couldn't find any info on it, which i found odd...

This is reporting that ext 8715 is the number it is trying to turn the light on and the PBX is returning a invalid on the ext number

I don't think this is a grounding problem with the 26xx sets on the Nortel.

What other problems are you having?

Common grounding is when the 2 components, PBX and VM server, are connected together through the grounding pin (third pin) of the main power supply cable (110VAC or 230 VAC).
In Europe (where I come from) it is very, very important to have the same grounding "level" (voltage and resistance (Ohms)) with reference to the main ground point - in all applications (PC's and PBX and other communications equipment).
It must be the same issue in the US of A.
Ferrite cores or ferrite beads come with the OCTEL voice mail systems. They are small boxes (1x1x1 inch) and are used to clamp around all cables to/from the OCTEL VM server and to/from the PBX. Especially the CO lines connected to the PBX will benefit from these items.

You should at least check for these 2 issues.

Checking the grounding can be done with a volmeter, putting the one lead on the PBX and the other on the OCTEL box - metal surface. A voltage (AC/DC) should be measured, but it should be low and stable. A resistance (Ohms) measurement should give a few Ohms, if the grounding is made correct.

I am not saying that grounding is not important but i can tell you in the USA they stopped shipping ferrite's years ago as the shielding of the cable and components got better.

The fact that the 2008 set is pushing a software button to turn the light on and not using a RS 232 connection to the PBX is why i do not see how it could be a grounding issue.

Hi Ken

Maybe you are right, but with integration using RS-232 /(i.e. the 26xx phones of the Nortel Meridian) it could be a good idea to check it out. We did a good job checking for these issues some year ago (it was pointed out by OCTEL!) and since we have had no such problems.
It was both with Ericsson MD110, AVAYA Definity Siemens Hicom an Nortel Meridian (Nortel using the SIC-8 board) in connection with AVAYA / OCTEL voice 200/300 and VMX-100.
With the technology today /(ethernet), it would maybe be less important?!

Ken
So in the second error is it 7315? I couldn't find the errors in the books that I have. I know it's there but wasn't using my regular set.

this is the latest and greatest. no longer recieving the 'illegal ext' code.

i haven't heard anything lately from users regarding the MWI, but there still may be an issue.

to elaborate on issues w/ our Octel, from time to time, 911 will recieve a inadvertent call from our PBX, but the calls are going out on Octel ext's. it was my understanding the Octel cannot dial out. could this have something to do w/ the above error or are these situations totally separate issues?

thanks again for all the help!

Ron Whitt

No the 911 could not be from this error but it may be from the Octel. This error is agin saying that the port is trying to log in to the ACD group and is having a problem. It is the first port on the first card or port 1A.
