Hello,

I have installed Redhat 9 and configured sendmail successfully. Sendmail authenticates users from linux username & password.

I also downloaded openldap 2.1.30, installed and configured and works okay.

I want my sendmail authenticate users from the openldap.

How do I configure the sendmail and the openldap

Thanks

Is there any compelling reason for this ???

My reason for wanting to use Sendmail with LDAP was because of the large number of servers at my company. Instead of having to log into umpteen servers to change email addresses that no longer are active or change you could use LDAP eliminating the need to do this. When the email address is removed from LDAP then it is done. Unfortunately, my ideas went nowhere.

But the actual user account would still remain on the sendmail server with it's corresponding entry in the /etc/passwd file. These accounts would still be "live" and would continue to accept mail/spam/whatever.

You can also use ldap for solaris auth, which is what we do at my work. This will get rid of the /etc/passwd problem Rhinokiller talked of.
