Integrating Sendmail with Openldap

Hello guys,

I have a running Fedora Core 3 server and configured with Sendmail. The sendmail uses the Linux password /etc/passwd file. The company users are growing and now they are more than 150.

I want the sendmail to authenticate the user from the ldap. How do I do that without loosing users data and minimal downtime.

Is there any possibility to Integrate the sendmail with the windows Active Directory?

When are you authenticating users? At SMTP send, or POP3/IMAP retreival?

If the latter, try reading the Cyrus IMAP HOWTO (I think RH still ships Cyrus as their default?) at

Specifically, section 4.

I'm using Sendmail SMTP and imapd for POP3 retreival.

Currently it works find with unix username (i.e. /etc/passwd).

I just want the openldap to authenticate the mail users.
