I'm a new member and this is my first thread. Hope it makes sense.
I've been searching the market and web forums for a way of integrating my project 2002 plans (also using Project Central work web access) and outlook.
As an organisation, I'm sure like many others, we use outlook quite happily to check people's available and to schedule meeting. It works fine for us. But, as a manager of one of our teams, I also have a resource plan (MS Project 2002 based) for all project activity. We also use Project Central to record actuals and distribute schedules.
This therefore presents a bit of a problem. If let's say a Salesguy wants to book a meeting with a presales guy, I wouldn't expect them to have to open my project plan and outlook, to check availability. I want them to have all the information they need in outlook. Once they've booked a meeting in outlook, I want that information to go into my project plan - without me having to manually review and update.
Central offers a halfway solution to the problem in that I can distribute my project information to my team.
The information in both project and outlook is surely the same. Task, who, start/end, duration. I therefore can't understand why this feature doesn't already exist.
I've looked at integration to tasks in outlook but they are flakey (only seems to take across task name) and there's no graphical calendar. So it's difficult to see who's doing what when.
I'm now planning to look at MS Project Server. However looking through the literature, there is still no link to outlook.
I'm therefore looking for some help, please?
