Hi
I was wondering why my computer cant seem to find my modem on my compaq deskpro 4000 (Pentium 2 266MHz). I believe it is an integrated modem, so when i get the computer to find the modems installed, it cant. Should i be installing this some other way??

It would be very helpful if you could give more info on the Operating system that you are running, the brand and type(ie bus type;ISA, PCI , etc ).

If it is a relatively new modem then you may not be seating the card properly in the port. Most later Windows O/s's should 'Plug and Play' find it automatically. Be firm with the pressure applied on insertion.

If it's a Compaq and you've recently re-installed Windows, you'll not be able to drive it without using the Compaq drivers. Windows drivers are not usually sufficient.

Generally speaking, they keep a copy of all the drivers for your PC on a special, "Compaq Rescue Partition," usually given teh designation D:\ But if you've removed that partition or if it was incompletely setup, the drivers may not be there. In that case, you will probably need to use the Compaq Restore CD that came with your PC.

If all else fails, you can usually go to Compaq's website and download a "SoftPaq" that contains your drivers. Most SoftPaq's are small enough to fit on a floppy disk, so you chould do this from any computer and then load the drivers onto yours.

I've known one instance where the SoftPaq was too large for a floppy and the owner of the PC had to call Compaq and order the SoftPaq on CD from them.

Hopefully, in your case, it will all be right there on teh rescue partition. :)
