Hi,

I currently have a Sharepoint 3.0 webserver set up.

One thing thats annoying us is the fact that we keep getting a popup authenication window with: local server's name\username as the username. Integrated Authentication is turned on, nothing else is allowed.

So when a user browses to each site they have enter domain\username or else they can't get in.

I'd like for them to just enter their username and then password to avoid confusion.

the server is a member server in a windows 2003 Active Directory. I am not sure if all permissions are configured correctly.

any ideas ? (IIS security continues to be a mystery to me).

Thanks

Kevin.

If the IIS server is a memeber of the domain then you should just have to set the default domain to "\" (backslash without the quotes). This tells the web server to use it's domain when authenticating users. If you are in a Parent/child domain environment this will not work. At that point I believe you would have to put the FQDN in the Default domain text box.

If it is an Intranet site you may also want to try to set basic authentication to see if your problem goes away. Not sure about share point, this is how I had to set up OWA and even through basic authentication is set up, the password is being protected by using SSL.

This is a late reply, but we had a similar issue. Our resolution was actually a BROWSER (IE) setting, and not IIS.

We now instruct all out intranet clients to use this setting, so their credentials are passed without a prompt.

In Internet Explorer/Tools/Internet Options/Security tab...

For the various Web Content Zones, select Custom Level. The last setting is for User Authentication. If the user selects "Automatic Login with current username and password", they will seamlessly enter the site without being prompted for credentials.

Note, you may want to do this only on the intranet zone to keep things tight...but we had to do this on Intranet AND Internet for it to work.

Hope that helps!
