Hello,
I'm having trouble with Word in office '97. Every time I try and open a document I get the error msg. "insuficient memory". This doesn't happen in any other office application - Excel Powerpoint etc.
I have 160mb ram, around 12gig and 1gig hard drive space. I have re booted many times and also got rid of all *.tmp files.
Could anyone help me.

Thanks in advance.

Is this happening with all documents?

Try starting Word with the /a switch and see whether problem still occurs.

To do this:

Start
Run
Type
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\winword.exe" /a
Press Enter

Hello, cshack.

I would suggest you first get hold of office installation package and locate the riched32.dll and msvbvm60.dll. If you are successful, rename existing ones to .old and replace them with the originals. Chances are they are either replaced by NT or other nondistributable versions.

If you have not been successful with the above, download the same from the lead in mskb article :

The first thing to do is delete all your temp files. Make sure you have closed out of all open applications first, though.

Just do a general file search under the c:\ drive for:

*.tmp

and then

~*

Then select all & delete.

donna,

what does the /a switch do for MS word... is there a complete list? I tried a /? and it launches it anyway.

Thanks

This comes directly from Word97 Help file.

To start Word and prevent add-ins and global templates (including the Normal template) from being loaded automatically, type /a

This switch also prevents setting files from being read or modified.
