what type of voice mail? I doubt it's an Audix with your current release and goggle it

you would web browse into your server, select server maintenance then tick messaging and then hit back up now

Where is the back up stored?
Other systems either have a Flash Drive or DVD that can be stored Off Premise.

It is my understanding
Backup would be Stored on a Separate Server
It would require
sftp, ftp, or scp
For access would require
Server Name
Username/Password
Schedule

We're using cm/cmm Avaya Aura 5.2.1
I had to setup an external server to backup my data to, just as you thought.

I setup a small Ubuntu server for this.
I'm not a Linux person so it was a bit of a challenge to get it up and working.
