Instantiating Objects Between Packages

Isn't it bad form to instantiate an MTS object from components that are in different packages? I think that it has something to do with each package running in it's own process. I could swear that I read something in the KB or something by Ted Pattison but I can't find it now. Anyone have some documented info on this?
