Instant Web Publishing and external script error

Hi, I am a newbie. How do you get external scripts to
work with Instant web publishing. Or do they work!
For example I have a button on one layout of one file
which should call a script that has the Perform external
script step. This step should open the file it is located in and run it's script. Shouldn't it?

Please help!!

they do work....script over the web are not suggested due to the script timing issues. I would look into Custom Web Publishing with CDML...that is relatively easy if you know HTML.
