Instant messenger use with a webcam

Does any of the typical free instant messenger software offer webcam/microphone support? I want to hook up a webcam and mic on 2 computers to talk to each other. If so which is the best one to use and do you have to have a certain webcam for it to work?

Or is there any commercial software out there that is good for this type of thing?

Msn and Yahoo both allow webcam use. Just about any webcam will work. Logitech, Creative Labs, Microsoft, etc..

I reccomend Creative Labs as they have been the best quality for the buck from what ive seen. Logitech has good ones but you have to pay for them. I personally am using the Logitech quickcam im. Not exactly a great cam but it gets the job done.

Either way just install the cam, open up the messenger and tell it to start webcam and it will open it.

As for using mic, thats a seperate part on a messenger. You have to enable voice chat with the person in order to use that.

Forgot to mention once you have the cam open on the messenger, you must invite the person whom you want to see the cam. Or they can request to view and then you accept. Yahoo has a place where you can add to allow someone to view the cam anytime they want without needing permission. Not sure if msn does this.
