Running Exchange and Windows Server 2003. Is there a way of sending instant messages to domain users desktops, other than email, and without any configuration at the client end? I've heard of commands such as NETSEND, but am unsure what I need to do first before it will work.

I remember in Win98 there was a program called Winpopup, but the client needed to have this open to receive messages. I need something that will popup a message automatically, for instance to advise them to log off the network.

Cheers!

Net Send is IMish, but doesn't come close to the features of IM. To use Net Send all you have to do is make sure the "Messenger" service is running all of the clients you want to send a message to. Do a net send /? to see how to send a message.

Two ideas:

Cheap - a program called Awesome Popup (apopup). Pretty cheap, and mimics WinPopup but better. Not sure if it's compatibile with what you run on the desktops.

More $ - Microsoft Live Communications Server. Acts like IM users are used to, but more secure and it stays in the network.
