We are running Oracle 8i on a Windows 2000 server with SP2. The last few weeks our production instance goes down because a file locks and can't be written to. The files are different each time.

control03.ctl
logprod1.ora
indx1.ora

The first file wouldn't become available until we rebooted the server. The last two times we could actually bring the instance back online without a reboot.

Does anyone know what would cause the files to be locked? Our backup wouldn't cause it.... We do an offline backup at night and bring them back online after 4:00am. Our users get on after 6:00am and don't have any problems till it goes down around 8:40am - 9:30am. The only other program that could lock the files on that machine would be Norton AntiVirus CE 7.6. There are no other programs running on the box.

If it is the AntiVirus software then we would consider upgrading or changing to a different product. We can't have our database go down even once a week.

Thanks so much.

David

Hi, Try setting some 'excludes' in your Norton
Anti-Virus to exclude ALL your Oracle files
and see if it helps..

( We use McAfee, so I don't know where that is set in Norton)

Thanks, I'll try this and post if it worked or not.
