Hi there,
I have a query that I am hoping someone can help with.

There is a report that we schedule to run overnight. The end result is a 2-3 page report. However, when I try to view the instance it takes 4 minutes plus to bring up the first page. I understand that cached reports were available in Seagate Info but is there a workaround in Enterprise ?

Many thanks for any guidance that can be offered.
Alec

Are you sure that you are viewing the instance and not recreating the report? I have never had this kind of problem bringing up a historical report.

Hi Lisa,
definitely bringing up the instance (report takes about 1.5 hours to run). Using the View Latest Instance option from EPortfolio.

Hmm, I just checked one of my intance reports. It is ~ 4000 pages. The first page comes up almost instantly, and it takes about 45 seconds to go to last page.

Does crystal (not the database) do a lot of data manipulation to present the data? Groups, sums etc on large amounts of data? Crystal reprocesses that type of information when you display the report, it just doesn't go to get the data.

In designer... save data with report.. how long does it take to get to the last page when you first open the report?

HI there,
it does do a fair bit of calculation and is covered in 3 lines of the detail section.

Opening it with the data saved takes longer than via Crystal Enterprise which is a bit strange. It almost seems like the cached version is being ignored under Enterprise.

I think you would be better off to shunt more of the calculations off to the server if you can. It might take longer to run.. although a well tweaked SP should run better than what you have now..

It is probably pure crystal processing that takes so long..

Lisa

Are you using many running total fields in the report. These has a major effect when viewing reports.

Just using 4 totals that sit in a footer. Bit weird as it is just one report that takes minutes otherwise would have suspected server.
Thanks - Alec
