I just downloaded a software from slackware - gcc-3.3.4-i486-1.tgz

I was suppose to install this package by typing:
installpkg gcc-3.4.3-i486-1.tgz as root.

However, I got error:
-bash: installpkg: command not found
I went to /sbin directory and look for installpkg non found.

Can anyone explain how I can download and install installpkg command

No I dont believe so, how would I found that out.

Actually, I am running Redhat Linux, I believe slackware is another Linux distro.

Then you should find a redhat package for gcc. I don't think a slackware build of gcc will work correctly on your RH box, too many dependencies.

Could not find any pre packaged gcc for Red hat

I think you may not be looking in the right places. Every version of redhat has an RPM package for gcc. What version of redhat are you on?

I have solved this problem by doing the following:

Beacuase I downloaded Redhat from the Net, there is no pre-compiled gcc*.rpm.

Hence, I found an aold gccc.rpm, force the system to install older version of cpp and glibc and installed my precompiled gcc. All is now well.

Thank you.

You really went the long way around for that. I assure you there was a precompiled gcc for your install, but what the hey.
