I'm trying to install XP Home on my laptop using an IDE Maxtor 300GB. The Phoenix BIOS can see the hdd correctly, but laptop hangs while booting from XP disc. The initial POST is OK then after the CD spins up and starts the installation, I get this screen - 'Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration... ' which is correct. Then the screen goes blank, but it does nothing else.

Could this the 48-bit LBA problem? If so, how do I fix it? I understood the 48-bit problem (137GB limit) to be a BIOS problem. But if the BIOS can see it...!?

Can anyone help?
