Hi,

I downloaded the XAMPP package from
I downloaded the Installer. Double-clicked it and I think it worked. Then I started XAMPP from Start/programs...etc

When I go to it's asking for user name/password. If I try to access any file (like index.html) it says that it's not found.

What did I do wrong?? I'm trying to use php/mysql on my machine.

Thank you!

This only happens if I use FireFox browser. Even if I stop Apache and MySQL, and probably will happen even if I would never install them.

In IE when I try to access I get the Windows XP Pro welcome page (.asp) from the MS IIS.

IIS responds to localhost by default. Maybe I need to stop IIS and then Apache will take over localhost?

I followed the installation instructions (double clicking on the setup batch file), but it looks like nothing has been installed, even though I didn't see error messages.

If this is the IIS/Apache conflict, how would I resolve it?

Thanks

try unbinding iis from port 80 ( or totally) (think this is a control panel thing)

or bind apache to another port in the httpd.conf file if you need iis running too ( then your urls become (say)).

Sounds good. Can you give more details on how to do this? I don't mind stopping the IIS, if at all possible.

Thanks

IIS cannot be running at the same time as Apache if that is what you meant. For Windows, go into Services (Control Panel-->Administrative Tools-->Services and change the properties to shut down ISS/make it manual start.
