Hello, I just finished installing WSUS on my Wind2K3 Domain controller and everything went fine. Supposedly I should be able to go to and see the page for it but I get a "page under constructions" instead. IIS is installed and when i installed WSUS I got no errors...any ideas why I am getting the "age under construction" page?...I want all my client pc's to get update form the server and not Microsoft's Website

If this is WSUS 3 then it is now administered via an mmc console, if you run the setup on a XP PC then then there is an option in the setup to install the admin console for wsus. You need to have MMC 3.0 installed first though I believe.

Previous to WSUS 3.0 the page was

Yes I am using version 3 SP1....so I guess what I am seeing is normal?

Yeah, install and use the mmc admin console for administering WSUS 3.0

Pagy thanks, you are correct. However I am now having a problem, I created a new group policy with the WSUS settings but for some reason it is not working...In the WSUS Admin console all of my computers are listed under "unassigned" and not under the computer group name that I created...I think this is because the group policy is not working....the link below is an image of the settings...can you see anything wrong?...how can I make sure that the group policy is in effect and working?

Might just take a while for the GPO to take effect.

Have you tried doing a gpupdate /force on a workstation and seeing if the policy appears?

You've also got to set the WSUS options to use group policy for placing clients. The default is manual placing.

Actually I create that policy yesterday...it has been over 20 hours ago...I did use the gpupdate /force on one workstation and still nothing...I do not know why this group policy is not taking effect...in the scope tab I have authenticated users and i added the "everyone" group just to make sure but still nothing ...I do not want to add the policy settings to the default domain policy because microsoft recommends not to do so...could it be that there is a setting on the default domain policy not allowing other policies to be effective??

I think I need to manually move the computers from the unassigned group to the group i created.....maybe the client-side targeting that i have configured in the group policy will work on new systems that get added to the network???.....the policy seems to be working because now clients are not able to go to the windows update site to to manual updates...the only setting of the group policy that is not working is the client-side targeting setting...weird

You have to set WSUS server to use client side targeting as well, I can't remeber exactly where it is but it's somewhere in the WSUS console, just a tick box or radio button

You are correct again! There is an option in the admin console to enable client side targeting...I made the change, we will see how it goes..Thanks!

Client side targeting was what I meant with my 'group policy for placing clients'.

I just couldn't remember the exact words. :-D

Hope it works for you now.

Neill

It sure is working! Slowly I see that my clients are being placed automatically in the group that I created. Thanks for your expert advice!
