Installing Windows ME over Win95

It says you will be able to install ME over Win95, but it asks for WIN98 Product #. I have previously installed ME on a formatted drive of a computer with no previous Windows Installation.
I do have the original WIN 95 disk and also the CD for ME, it would not take either number instead of WIN98 product key.
This is on a laptop.

You've purchased the Win98 "update" CD of WinME, and not the "upgrade". Go back and read the writing on the box. Cheers,
