on my single drive laptop i have dl w7 beta, and plan to multiboot with v sp1. current setup is xp and v sp1. as part of w7 multiboot install can i simply overwrite xp partition (comp mgt reports vista as boot drive, but xp partition was first installed then vista. i don't want to upgrade to w7.

if not above should i try bcdedit or similar to remove xp refs.

i know that vista boot cd should recover from a disaster,
but it is a beta install, anyone been down this road?

went ahead and installed w7 on xp partition. installed ok.
only problem my vista security macfee is apparently incompatible (no prob in vista), installed kis 2009 ok.
first w7 impression is favourable but boot appears no quicker on my vostro laptop.

I installed W7 and have been using it for a few days. I DO NOT like it. It feels like a scaled down version of Vista! Why can't Microsoft just fix friggin Vista? I'm tired of dumping my cash on new versions or what I like to call "Microsoft's lack of skills" to create an operating system thats solid. anyway I thought I'd chime in seeing as I spent a lot of money on 200,XP and Vista. I will NOT buy W7! If they cannot fix Vista than I will get a Apple.

ken07734, you do appreciate that this isn't even a release candidate don't you?

I do realise that but am still concerned that Microsoft WILL be up to their old tricks again. They usually sware they have a brand new perfect much better os and we all fall for it, then we spend months trying to get it to work right and waiting perpetually for updates and patches. I can think of much better things to spend my money on than MS promises....

Ken, try the Windows 7 Forum, and fire a few broadsides at Microsoft, peppered with a few constructive criticisms, if you have time.

Are you able to submit bug reports via your Beta version of Windows 7? That would be helpful in molding the soon to be "latest operating system" into something more to your liking. It all takes time though, and maybe you haven't anymore to spend on such tasks.
