hi All
I have a compaq Proliant 1600 (dual processor with 3200 controller) that i want to install W2k Server on but withour smartstart CD. Is this possible?

I have tried just using W2K server CD which it boots into and when I pressed enter to install i get an error msg 'setup did not find any hard disk istalled'

On boot up 2 msgs i get are Drive array not configured and no logical drive also displayed but it has 6 x 18.2 Gb Ultra2 SCSI HD.

Can any one help

Thanks [afro]

You need to install by pressing F6 and have the smart array drivers ready on Floppy.
Get them of you Compaq CD or their site.

First of all you need to get the drive array configuration disks from Compaq to set up the array.

If you can find someone that will give you a copy of a Compaq smartstart disk v5.x or lower, it will make your life a lot easier.

W2K will then install without problems, it knows about the SA3200 and all the other hardware in a 1600.

I have got an old 1600 myself, and I got the diskimages of their site, configured my RAID5 and installed Windows 2000 without the need for anything else.
But, you have to configure your array first. It is that, or the 'F6' way.
