Hi,

I'm having trouble installing VirusScan 8.0 on an ML370 server. I get the error message "Error 1920,Service Network Associates failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services"
I'm logged on as administrator and have the privileges needed to start the services.
Does anyone have any ideas why I can't install VirusScan 8.0?

Many thanks,
Heworth

Hi Paul,

We're running windows 2003 SP1

I had a similar issue. The error message probably is caused by not being able to start the common framework service. When you click auto update an error message appears about a subsystem failure. What I did was the following ( source KB45575 from the mcafee support website)

Stop the McAfee Framework Service (probably already stopped):

Select Start, Run, type services.msc and click OK.
Right-click the McAfee Framework Service and select Stop.
Close the Services window.
Register all .DLLs:

Select Start, Run, typeCMD and click OK.
Navigate to ..\program files\network associates\common framework.
NOTE: This directory may be different as specified during installation.
While in the common framework folder type:
for %m in (*.dll) do regsvr32 /s %m
Wait for the .DLL registrations to take place.
Restart the McAfee Framework Service.

Select Start, Run, type services.msc and click OK.
Right-click the McAfee Framework Service and select Start.
Close the Services window.
Initiate an AutoUpdate.

After that I got another error and that was solved by the instructions in this knowledgebase article :KB45126
