I have a "Blonde" questions today regarding upgrading to vs 9.0 from vs 8.6. Yes I received the license activation code. My question is: IS this like an upgrade, that I do not have to worry about my cartalogs, data files, or media configurations. ? Or is it like a brand new version ? Do I just add the license in? I have more servers that I need to upgrade, do I use the same license ? Last question: anyone that already has this installed...can you do two copies of data on tapes for off site archive purposes? just wondering how ya like it. Thanks for all your help in advance.

Yes you can upgrade. But I suggest you copy your Catalogs, Data folders and pvl.mdb from \Program Files\Veritas\Backup Exec\NT folder to someplace safe. Also save your besnnum.txt file in \winnt folder there as well. (It stores your 8.6 serial #'s.)

During the upgrade, you plug in your core Backup Exec for Windows 9.0 serial #. Your other agent serials come forward.
In 9.0 you can do a duplicate backup data job.
The upgrade isn't pretty, hence the copying of the 8.6 stuff to a safe place. If you want the best chance of a clean running install, I suggest you take notes of what all your jobs, media sets and settings are. Then just do a fresh new install and duplicate settings by hand.
