The guy I was going to have install a universal trunk card in our Option 61c flaked out. So, I figured I might be able to tackle this on myself.

I can do moves/adds/changes and I've managed to stumble my way through a few other things on the switch.

The card is on it's way. I'll need to install it and setup a TN for paging over a Valcom V2006a.

Which manuals/sections of manuals should I be looking at (on helsman express)?

Does anyone have a step-by-step guide for this?

Thanks,
Buster

ldl 16 to add a route, ld 14 to add the trunks.. i can post a page route and trunk tomorrow. i don't use trunk type pag, i use cot so that i can adjust timer ftd,
force timed disconect. by setting that to 180, a paging trunk that hangs, only hangs for 3 minutes max. you'll need a vacant dn, and any slot in the ipe section of your 61

You could also just use an Analogue extension to dial the paging device, depends on what the Paging system is looking for, i.e Earth Loop Calling or DTMF.

the paging system interface is either trunk side of line side. some are switchable

The Valcom unit you specify will do a COT, loop or GRD start from the PBX, or a 2500 set. The instructions that came with the valcom should have the settings, DIP switches and connection points. To use COT do as John said, RDB in LD 16 and the trunk member in LD 14. If you are using the ACOD of the route to access page make sure that there is nothing in TARG, the default is 1 to remove it when you get to the TARG prompt enter X1.

note the tfd timer, keeps the page below 3 minutes and forces a disconect if the page trunk hangs. the acod is my page access code, the targ 6 is because all the patient phones are tgar 6, keeping the paging system from being used for a nurse call..

90 percent of this is default, if you've never done a route and trunk before, take all the defaults it will let you. then go back and do a change on the few that are modified.

I just did this on an option 11 the other day, it takes less than 15 minutes from start to finish, and that includes the punchdowns. (I already had the pager input in place)

i agree, vendors seem to make it appear a lot harder then it is..

OK, got the card (NT8D14BB)in last night. This morning I slid the card into slot 6.

I'm missing something though. When I dial the ACOD (7200) I get a fast busy and see "ERR404 0" on the terminal.

I tried clearing the "TARG" with x1, but it stayed 06. I then entered 1, and now it's shows 01 06.

Also, I punched it to the first pair of wires on the card (blue & white), but I read somewhere the wiring might be weird on these cards (density or something) but I didn't quite understand.

The Valcom unit is set to loop start. I tried gnd start but that didn't help.

Here's the programming on the switch;

Ok, got the TARG cleared. Still nothing.

When I dial 7200, it's just dead air. It does nothing until I press any number key, then it pops that ERR404 0 on the console and the phone does a fast busy.

I had used this paging system before on a Lucent switch, and when you accessed it, you would get a tone that you then dial you zone to. This trunk/route doesn't seem to be making the connection to the Valcom V2006.

Buster

Wow, my engrish weren't so goodly on that last sentence. Sorry, it should have read.

"I had used this paging system before on a Lucent Switch. When you dialed into it, the paging unit would answer and generate a tone. You could then dial the zone you wanted to page."

Buster

Check the dip switch setting on the Valcom. If you put a toner on the TN can you hear it when you dial the ACOD??

SW1 and SW2 DOWN, SW6 UP, SW3 1 UP Dialtone(away from Board), DOWN No DT, SW3 2 down, SW3 3 down. wht/blu pr to wht/blu pr of PBX. You should be able to put a Butt set on the Valcom pr and get Dialtone.

Ok, bonehead move. I have gbix blocks and stradled two pairs of house feeds.

Now I'm getting the dialtone of the Valcom, but cannot send dtmf to choose the zone once the Valcom picks up.

I dial 7200, get the valcom dialtone, press a number and get fast busy, ERR404 0 pops up on the console.

Getting closer.

I'll pop over to that building and check the dip switches on the Valcom.

Thanks,
Buster

Make sure the set you are calling from has CLS UNR. Press # after ACOD then try again.

Excellent!!! That was it. CLS UNR. It's working.

Ok, now I have to go add that to all phones.

Thanks a bunch!

Buster

Would be careful installing this cls to all phones. Make sure that the targ on on other RDB's match the sets tgar to avoid users accessing routes directly.
