FYI,
I am using Windows 2000 Professional, Service Pack 3 with MotherBoard: ASUSTeK Computer INC. P4PE REV and a QUANTUM ATLAS10K3_18 driven by Adaptec AHA-2940U/AHA-2940UW PCI SCSI Controller, not that any of this matters.
Recently I purchased an Adaptec SCSI Card 29320 - Ultra320 SCSI for the computer and proceeded to install same. AS we all know there are several ways to install various hardware, and I used all of them in my attempts. There is one thing for sure that remains the same, and that is the computer selects the drivers for the hardware at the appropriate time, unless you as installer command a different driver.
Herein lies my problem, as I always defer to the wisdom of the system. In this case the system continued to install win64bit drivers, and they will not work with a win32bit operating system. After many attempts, and finally consulting with the Adaptec Tech folks, we detected the problem and forced the system to install the win32bit drivers, the system worked.
Just a friendly hint
