I am trying to install suse 9 on my desktop to run alongside windows but although the install seems fine I cant read the screen properly.

Its all very blurred. I have an nvidia graphics card (g-force FX) is this the problem, how can I fix it

If it were RedHat, I would tell you to boot the linux into text mode ( 'linux text' , at boot prompt ) and you'd be able to run 'Xconfigurator' which can optimize the settings for your windowing display.

I presume that Suse has a similar function available.

Surfinbox.com Business Internet Services - National Dialup, DSL, T-1 and more.

SUse does have Xconfigurator, XFsetup86, and Yast to help setup video configurations. And yes, Yast can be run in text mode.

You say it's all very blurred, does that mean it's very small, or very large? Also, make sure you don't have the refresh rate set to high, or it will destroy your monitor. Usually, Suse will figure this all out with a default install, so it's usually not a problem.

i think the command under suse is "sax" ... or "sax2" . either way, i fixed my screen by getting my screen manual, going thru the existing X configuration files, and then un-fscking the those shenadigans the autoconfig stuffed in there after my 8.1 install.

It's worked very decently ever since.

Figured it out, it did not like the 1024x768 settings using the Nvidia geforce fx card. On install there is an option (F2) to change the resolution for the install.

I set this to 640x480 and it removed the blurring, installed fine and had no problems since.

Once logged in I changed the resolution back to 1024x768 and no problems since.

Still having a problem with acclerated graphics, not that I will use them much but I still like to have all features working as much as possible.

Thanks for your help everyone
