Hi,

I obtained this box from dept in my company and now an having some issues connecting to the box.My co-worker was playing around with the box and after rebooting it, I can no longer ssh to it.He removed some packages on the box however is confident that one of the packages removed wasn't ssh.Since I cannot connect to the box I would like to install a fresh copy of Solaris 9.The only problem is that there doesn't seem to be a way for me to connect a monitor and keyboard to the unit.(I'm familiar with Sparc 5)Can anyone assist me in the process of getting Solaris 9 installed? I have read where you can use Hyperterm to connect to the box and get a # prompt but my understand is that can only happen if you have access to the box already. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

thanks

christopher

You need a null modem cable in order to hyperterm with pc, or you could use another Sun system. You need a RJ45 cable with a Null modem adaptor(usually provided with the ship kit for the system part#530-2889). Plug cable into netra serial port a and adaptor into serial port b on host system. Open terminal window and type tip hardwire then hit enter and you should be at command prompt. Halt the system, install the cdrom or set up for net install, either way.

You are not able to telnet, rlogin or ftp to the netra correct?

Thanks

I did call the person/dept who gave me the Netra X1 and they don't have any of the items that came with the box.I do however have another Sun Ultra 5 on our network. What would I need to do to get the Netra work with my exsisting Ultra 5?

you just need a RJ45 "Patch Cable", the Netra X1 does have a LOM interface with a RJ45 Socket, too. Connect this cable to a Hyperterminal (eg. Wyse), a TerminalConentrator (aka. TerminalServer; eg. microANNEX, CISCO 25xx) or to another hosts serial port (for U5 you will need the adapter Chris mentioned), on a PC you can use Window's Program HyperTerminal or Linux's minicom...
