Hi all, I'm in over my head...

I am trying to install pine 4.31. I downloaded the precompiled package from and used smit per the instructions. I got two dependicy errors; openssl-0.9.6.0 which I also got from rge.com and, ldap.client.rte, which I installed from my aix 4.3.3 cd.

But now when I try to run pine i get and error and the message that "Dependent module libcrypto.a(libcrypto.so) could not be loaded". I can't find this and am not sure what to do next?

Also I notice that when I use the 'man' command now I get the message "Remote search is in progress.." and it takes a minute or two to bring up any man page? This must be the results of something I installed, but I don't like it! Please help me make it stop!!!!

Thanks much,
bill

Bill,

Are you outside the US? this might be one of the modules non-us users aren't allowed

No, I'm a US customer located in Missouri.

OK..... Does pine say that it's ok on AiX v4.3.3?

(just thinking out load here as no one else has responded - sorry. Feel free to jump in here if you have any idea what this problem is please.) Mike

Email welcome if you're in a hurry or something -- but post in tek-tips as well please, and I will post my reply here as well.

I think it could have something to do with the 'ldap' v3 that I loaded off the aix cd? Pine says it uses v2. But I am not clear if ldap v3 is backward compatible and will respond to a v2 client?

I'm lost! All I was trying to do in the first place was modify our existing pine config so that users could access a remote imap inbox, and I thought I would start with a fresh, precompiled copy of pine. Uuggg...

Sorry, I'm just a lowly computer programmer who got stuck doing system admin on the side...and we don't have aix phone support... :(
