Okay, I give up! How do you install SharePoint Services (inc Frontpage Extensions)?

I'm using FrontPage 2002, which is the same edition that I using in development too. Sherepoint isn't accessible via the Install Wizard, but if you go to the subfolder in that name, and run the setup file found there it installs it for you - to no apparent effect!

Now I've installed and then published to that server, and after that failed, I uninstalled, and reinstalled - at which point it detected the FP web, and I elected to make it a SharePoint site. All the installations have been successful but still no joy.

Basically I just want to use the search and hit counter functions of FP. I know I could do it with javascript and cgi, but since it's for an intranet, and everyone will be using IE6+, using FP stuff is fine (and it's become a matter of honour now!).

Does anyone have any ideas? Is there some obvious rookie mistake I'm making? (if so, it's not documented in the readme's or help files).

A separate issue for interest's sake - does anyone know how to install it to anything other than the C:\ drive? (I wanted it on our SAN, but I've installed it on a separate server now). It doesn't give any commnad line or browse options, and I've searched the installation .ini's for somewhere I could customise it.

FP's great isn't it.... Jonathan Challis

ELEye,

The site is based on a server. I develop on my local machine and then publish to the server.

Publishing is necessary for some FP functions, and I don't want to work on the live site.

If I've misunderstood your point, please could you explain?

...and disk based? - as in a CD-ROM? Jonathan Challis

In a Server-based Web it's all live. There is no transfer from one computer to another.

In my opinion this is a PITA of SharePoint.

So, as far as I know, SharePoint can only work as a live site. Dave [idea]

Hmmm....well, as far as SharePoint is concerned, it is only dealing with a live site...

It's certainly gives me a line of investigation though - thanks.

Unfortunately, FP02 doesn't let you install the extensions without SharePoint. <sigh>

What's PITA?

Thanks, Jonathan Challis

The way the FPSE work is:
Install FPSE 2000
then install FPSE 2002
then choose whether or not to make it a SharePoint site.

We have many Domains we host that use FPSE 2002 that are not SharePoint sites. So if you don't want a SharePoint site, but do want the FPSE 2002 capabilities, just don't add SharePoint to it when you set up the Domain/Folder in IIS. Dave [idea]
