Greetings, All.

After a year of managing a static Novell 4.11 (used mainly for legacy lookup issues), all I know how to do is take the server down, bring it back up and create user accounts. Unfortunately, I keep having issues with the server freezing on the way down & up as well as loosing user connections. I'm hoping to resolve this by installing the Service Pack 9 I've seen mentioned in a couple of posts, but I have no idea how to go about this.

My questions are as follows (and as I am Novell Novice, please be as specific as possible in any answers):

1) I'm currently downloading the SP to my Win 98 PC. Do I just copy it over to the drive I've mapped to the Novell Server and double-click it to extract it? Or do I save it on a floppy and take it over to the Server physically and do something else to extract it?

2) After extraction, is there a specific command I need to run to "activate" the SP?

3) The only documentation we seem to have at the company is "How to design your Novell network" and a vague list of what I think are server commands. Can anyone recommend a book or web-based documentation for me to read up on how to do things like this and how to manage the file & print services on a Novell 4.11 server?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks! Catadmin - New to Server Admin, but willing to learn... All help is appreciated.

Ok:

1) Extract the file you download and copy the contents into a directory on one of your server volumes (eg. copy the extracted contents to SYS:NW411SP9)

2) On the server console, type INSTALL (doing this from memory so bear with me), then (I think) the second from bottom option is something like "Products" etc.., then "Install a Product not listed", F3 to select the path, then put the path to where you have copied the extracted SP to on your server (eg. SYS:NW411SP9). This will execute the upgrade, you will probably be asked whether you want to back up old files and if you have the diskspace free on SYS, it is a good idea to do that.

3) Try the link below. Although it is really for NetWare 4.2, there's not much different:
