I have a Compaq Professional Workstation AP400 that I am trying to install a second SCSI drive to. My problem is that the second drive is not seen when booting the computer but when you look in device manager you can see it. If I insert the win 2000 cd and go through the install steps the drive is shown but a message "setup cannot access this drive" is shown

Any ideas

Thanks in advance for any help.

The drive needs to be set at a different ID number than the other drive and the SCSI card itself. What kind of SCSI is/are the drives? Does the cable have a terminator on it? If it does not then the last drive on the cable should be terminated and the one in the middle should not be

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply. Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.

Yes the drive is set to a different ID number and yes the ribbon cable is termanated.

In old IDE speak the master drive is a Fujitsu MAJ3182MC 18.2GB Ultra 160 SCSI/SCA2/LVD (works fine) and the slave is an IBM Ultrastar DDYS-18350 Ultra3 SCSI drive. I am using a converter to convert from the 80pin configuration of the drive to 68 pin configuration of the ribon cable.

I have connected just the Ultrastar to the PC, the hard drive is not found by either win2000 setup or fdisk. But as I said in my previous post when you attach both drives the PC will boot into win2000 (Master drive OK) and the Ultrastar appears in device manager as working properly.

Cheers again for any help or guidance.
