I've done this before. Just make sure to give the VM a gig or two of ram, particularly if you install SQL... But since you won't be loading data on it, you should probably be fine with 1gb allocated.
If you have issues initially, it will be with creating an additional virtual adapter. So you can either sort through how to add an additional virtual adapter during the initial setup, or you can put off the ISA part of your studies up until you actually need that extra adapter.
